“Assisted Dying Debate Highlights Urgent Funding Crisis in End-of-Life Care – More Support Needed for Hospices to Give People True Choice in Their Final Days”says Wes Streeting.
The introduction into Parliament of the legislation on assisted dying and a vote likely on November 29th has spotlighted the severe funding challenges facing end-of-life care. Wes Streeting emphasized that people deserve the choice of where to die, but the underfunded palliative care and hospice sectors can’t yet meet this need. Lawrence Nurses like the rest of the hospice sector remains neutral but warns that more funding is urgently needed to continue to provide free palliative care to everyone who needs it in our community.
Recently, two letters have been written by Robert Johnston (Lawrence Nurses Director) and Verity Fifer (Lawrence Nurses Head of Fundraising) to the Times and Telegraph about this matter. Both have been published. See the details here.
